SET at the forefront of Climate Change

SET Sustainable Energy Technologies at the forefront of Climate change

SET Sustainable Energy Technologies shares the recent European Commission’ s statements about tackling climate change. The need for low-CO2 production has never been greater than now.

We saw the chaos and carnage of extreme weather… right across our Union. This is the reality of a boiling planet.” – As the European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen remarked in SOTEU speech this week, – “we shifted the climate agenda to being an economic one. This has given a clear sense of direction for investment and innovation… And we have already seen this growth strategy delivering in the short-term. Europe’s industry is showing every day that it is ready to power this transition. Proving that modernisation and decarbonisation can go hand in hand“.

Especially the energy industry is in desperate need of modernization. SET Sustainable Energy Technologies is continuously working on the leading edge of innovation in the drive technology field to contribute to a CO2-reduced energy transition and supply. Our vision is to revolutionize the market with our highly efficient and innovative SETCON variable-speed gearbox, devised based on 35 years of experience in the development of industrial drives.

Implementation of SETCON variable-speed gearbox increases the whole drive train efficiency and reduces downtime to an absolute minimum. A robust standardized gearbox design and outstanding durability of used low-voltage frequency drive technology with a MTBF of up to 60 years underlines this.

SET Sustainable Energy Technologies’ vision keeps aligned with the opinion of the EU majority, according to the recent European Commission report on climate change 2023. Three quarters (75%) of EU citizens agree that the innovative technology development is a natural step in tackling climate change. Consequently, this will make EU companies more competitive on the market.

SET gives me self-confidence: our intern shared his experience on International Intern Day

Today, Sustainable Energy Technologies celebrates Intern Day and reminds to appreciate young generations of technical specialists. SET intern Vi Dong Tran comments how essential this opportunity is:

“Before, I did not have trust to myself, I was afraid not to understand my tasks, but SET team gives me self-confidence. SET taught me their innovative technologies, and now I find it very interesting to be involved in the process, to watch how an idea turns into the impressive machine – SETCON®”.

SET intern remarks that school students should be guided by an example of success:

For us, it seems that there is a huge time gap for a career decision, but actually time flies so fast by. Therefore, it is so crucial to start my working way already now and in such a company as SET”.

Vi Dong Tran lives and studies in Austria:

As a local, I am proud that this ground-breaking company SET represents Austria on international market. It is astonishing!”

Cultural awareness training at SET event

Today SET team appreciates the culture of our customer Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) and tastes the Omani traditional dish – Mishkak – at our SET corporate event. SET Sustainable Energy Technologies GmbH admires the international background of our clients, partners, suppliers, and employees and promotes the cultural awareness.

Mishkak is grilled halal meat served on skewers. It is popular all over Oman as fast street food, especially during celebrations and holidays. And as we have experienced, the Mishkak cooking process is a people-bonding matter. Our team has had much fun grilling it together.

Presentation at CWP 2016

For the first time SET GmbH is presenting its new innovative product the TRD-unit (Torque Ramp Down Unit) at the China Wind Power 2016 (20th of October, Beijing).

Content: The TRD-unit is a wear-free Eddy Current brake (ECB) which reduces the loads of a WEC in case of a LVRT or any other unpredictable failure.  High stress cannot be prevented, so the WEC has to be designed for these cases. This can be seen by the large amount of material used for WECs (e.g. DFIG) already in operation, which led to an increase in overall costs. To minimize these dimensioning loads, the company SET GmbH from Klagenfurt in Austria has developed a robust, very controllable and cost effective system: a wear-free Eddy Current brake (ECB) mounted on the generator’s HSS under the brand name TRD-unit.  The TRD-unit is an effective option for slowing down a WEC within a short time period, before the WEC´s pitching system is able to react.

This leads to the fact, that the structural loads due to LVRT are no longer dimensional loads. Foundation, tower, rotor blades, gears and bearings can be designed under load reduced conditions. It is expected that the saving of materials lies in the lower two-digit percentage range.CWP2016, Presentation of SET´s TRD-unit, Maximilian Hehenberger (November 20th, Beijing)

SET presented at 13th European Fluid Machinery congress

At 13th European Fluid Machinery congress Mr. Maximilian Hehenberger, the head of Business Development & Sales of SET GmbH, has presented his article with the title “Increased Efficiency and Reliability through an Electro-Mechanical Differential System Providing Variable Speed to Pumps and Compressors”.

Content: The objective of this article is to assess an electro-mechanical differential system (EMDS) system providing variable speed to a driven machine (e.g. compressor, blower, pump, etc.) in terms of applicability and energy Efficiency.

At the beginning of 2015 the European Union released a new standard, the EN 50598 series, leading to increased demand for variable speed drives. Beyond other drive train technologies, the EMDS is one possible solution for meeting the standard’s requirements. In this connection, efficiency and the resulting life cycle costs are essential to ensure compliance. The assessment of the EMDS reveals that this drive train technology is a compatible solution to meet future challenges…to read the whole article klick [here].

Successful appearance at WindEnergy Hamburg

From 26-28 Sep SET was at Hamburg Exhibition! The appearance of SET together with AVL was a great success and was very well received by the visitors. Talking to costumer our team consisting of Peter Prebio, Maximilian Hehenberger and Markus Waldner was able to emphasize the benefits of DSgen-set® and engineering expertise of SET (together with AVL).

Above all, the introduction of the new product “torque ramp-down unit” has found a very positive response from all those who operate or offer DFIG equipment. This new technology, which can be used as an inexpensive and highly efficient load shedding device, led to some new and interesting business contacts.

We wish to thank all our visitors for their interest and all partners for the excellent collaboration, looking forward to the next presentations in 2015.
